28Jun2018

From 5:00pm until 9:00pm

Inspiring original drawings and stories by homeless children, expressing how they can contribute to making our Democracy a more perfect union for us all.

‘LIVING UP TO THE IDEAL OF DEMOCRACY: DRAWINGS BY HOMELESS CHILDREN’ at The Actors Theatre Workshop (through November, 2018). ATW’s retrospective casts a spell and gives us a reprieve from the relentless drumbeat of bad news. Physically warm and welcoming, this jewel of a theatre is filled with a lovingly edited selection of drawings and their accompanying stories created by 8 - 12 year old homeless children — bald eagles that swoop down to stop crimes, American flags that inspire the citizenry to break the chains of racism and bias that these children and their families often confront, and other-worldly and smiling Statues of Liberty that make everyone free. It’s a profoundly hopeful body of work about each generation’s responsibility to put the Founding Father’s dream of a more perfect union into action.
