Do you want to learn how to express your talent on stage with confidence? The Actors Theatre Workshop invites you to be part of an immersive class that will equip you with the required technique to give complex, illuminating performances.

The Acting Conservatory is the professional acting school of The Actors Theatre Workshop, founded by award-winning actor, writer and director Thurman E. Scott. As a teacher, Mr. Scott creates a secure, safe environment that allows students to relax, develop a foundation of truth and confidence, make effective and powerful choices, express new ideas, and fulfill their creative potential.

In Acting Technique I and II, you will receive 1-on-1 instruction from a master teacher and learn original exercises to free your imagination and emotions. You’ll develop a newfound, spontaneous life force to use in scenes and monologues, with an emphasis on finding the action of the material, and making powerful and illuminating choices. You will work in each class doing tangible creative exercises or on material.

Mr. Scott teaches his original acting and writing technique to both established actors and students beginning their journey of developing into theater artists. With his unique approach to the study of drama, he draws upon his vast professional history as a theater and film artist, his studies with the greatest teachers of American, European and Russian theater, and the original findings of the founder of the method form of acting, Constantin Stanislavski.

Mr. Scott’s mentor, theater legend Stella Adler, with whom he studied and shared a creative relationship spanning over 25 years said, “Thurman E. Scott is the inheritor of the Stanislavsky legacy and of my legacy. His work advances acting technique for the next generation.” Mr. Scott expanded on his mentors’ legacy by developing new acting and writing techniques to free the instrument, fulfill the demands of the play, and liberate talent.

In acting we say, “Within the choice lies the talent.” This means that our talent is revealed through making the best of the many choices that are available to us at that particular time of our development. As students who have studied here have often said, studying with Thurman E. Scott was the best choice they ever made.

The Fall term, consisting of 13 classes, will be held at The Actors Theatre Workshop on Monday evenings from 6:45PM to 10:45PM ET Monday, November 4th – February 10th, with a holiday break Dec 23rd – 30th. Students outside of the tri-state area can apply to join the class remotely over Zoom. Acting Technique I and II is an ongoing acting class with 13-week payment cycles.
